When to call

The on-call specialist is able to be contacted at any time and this should occur for any admissions to the unit and for any patients that you have concerns about or if you need to discuss aspects of their care.

For some shifts the on-call person will be a Fellow who is being supervised by a consultant. In this case then the Fellow is the person to call in place of the specialist.

If you need to reach the on-call specialist you may do this through:

• The saved number on the registrar mobile phone

• Via the hospital switchboard. Phone 0 from an internal phone.

• On 0800 4TRAUMA. This number is diverted to the on-call ICU specialist.
